The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for remarks likening the 2007/2008 post-election violence to a "Christmas party'' as he spoke of the 2027 general election. NCIC terms the remarks as deeply insensitive and has condemned the former deputy president, saying the utterances were harmful to national healing and reconciliation. The commission is investigating 28 other leaders for alleged violations under the National Cohesion and Integration Act, including hate speech and ethnic contempt.
